The little store that could
In April 2007, Addo Novo opened its doors in downtown Portland, Maine. We began small, with only a few collections in our modest 2,200 square foot space. Instantly, there was skepticism about our presence in a region known for its Victorian homes and mindset towards more cottage-style, traditional furniture.
But we knew there was a calling for modern design in our fair city. Portland is and has always been a town of progressive thinkers and doers. Our artist community is vibrant. We're a mecca for foodies. We knew there was hope for the little store that could.
More than five years later, our collection has grown to over 3,000 products and includes pieces from some of the most iconic designers of the 20th century such as Eames, van der Rohe, Noguchi, Jacobsen, Cherner, Saarinen, Bertoia, Nelson and Risom. Our collection also boasts works from brilliant designers of today including Goetz, Hilton, Lovegrove, Rashid, Gehry, Behar and Morrison.
Our little store is growing, and always getting better. But we never want to lose sight of our small-store focus. We believe furniture shopping should be fun, and personal. We want you to have the right piece, done right — and delivered right (our CEO often drives the delivery truck in New England.)
So, with all the furniture stores online offering you free this and free that, why should you consider buying from us? Because we love what we do, and when you step into our showroom, that love shows. We've sat in everything we sell, and we can share that experience with you. Better yet, we're not ruled by some corporate office calling the shots — we bring in the pieces we like and share our thoughts about pieces that we believe aren't up to par.
In March 2012, we opened our second store in Boston's South End. The 4,400 square foot space on Washington Street has allowed us to feature more furniture and accessories from our collection.
Six months after opening Boston, and after five great years in Maine, our Portland location closed. We thank all of our Portland customers for their support, and hope that you will visit us in Boston — a mere two-hour drive away.
