Anki Spets
Born in a small Swedish fishing village, Anki Spets went on to study in Stockholm and developed a love of textiles. She began her career as a fashion designer, but wished to create products with longer life-spans and with less of an emphasis on trends. Spets moved to New York City during the 1980s, and noticed a major difference between American and Scandinavian bedding styles– prompting her to form Area in 1990. Her products for Area– which range from table linens, bedding, to rugs– are infused with the simplicity and beauty of her Swedish design aesthetic.
