Erik Magnussen

Born in Copenhagen, Erik Magnussen studied ceramics at the Danish School of Applied Arts and Crafts and graduated with a silver medal in 1960. Although trained as a ceramist, Magnussen was drawn to a variety of materials including glass, plastics, porcelain, and steel. His versatile range of products– including tableware, furniture, lighting, and electronics– are generally characterized by their simplicity and functional elegance. In 1967, Magnussen was awarded the prestigious Lunning Prize for Scandinavian design. He is part of the faculty at the Danish Royal Academy of Art, and his work is exhibited in permanent design collections worldwide.
