Fernando and Humberto Campana
Fernando: b. 1961
Humberto: b. 1953
The Campana brothers never anticipated becoming furniture designers– Humberto originally studied law, while Fernando obtained a degree in architecture. Together they began designing in the early 1980s, creating vibrant pieces influenced by the colors, textures, and diversity of their native Brazil. Working from their Sao Paolo workshop, the Campana brothers transform found materials– such as rubber hose, tissue paper, string, or stuffed animal toys– into decadent furniture objects that border on art. The experimentation with high and low materials, in combination with traditional, artisanal techniques, has rendered an entirely unique aesthetic to their work. In 1998 they exhibited at Modern Museum of Art, New York. Curated by Paola Antonelli, 'Project 66' was their first international show.
