Harri Koskinen
b. 1970
Born in Karstula, Finland in 1970, Harri Koskinen has come to represent Scandinavian design through his modern, minimalist aesthetic. Having studied at the Institute of Art and Design in Helsinki, Koskinen has used his training to develop a wide range of products from wristwatches, textiles, cookware, to commercial packaging. His clients include Marimekko, Magis, MUJI, Swarovski, and Iittala. He is perhaps best known for the Block Lamp, produced by Design House Stockholm, which places a lightbulb between two shaped pieces of glass. It received the award for Excellent Swedish Design 1998, the Design Plus Award at the Ambiente Trade Fair in Frankfurt and Best New Product at the Accent Show in New York in 1999. It has since been added to the permanent design collection at the Modern Museum of Art in New York.
