Pier Giacomo Castiglioni
1913-1968
The second of the three Castiglioni brothers, Pier Giacomo was born in 1913. He studied architecture at the Milan Polytechnic, and soon after opened a studio with his brother Livio. However, Pier Giacomo is best known for his collaborations with his younger brother Achille, who joined the practice following World War II. Their cheeky aesthetic, visible in the “Readymade” designs of the 1950s, were particularly successful in establishing the Castiglioni brothers as true innovators. Pier Giacomo and Achille’s lighting design for Arredoluce, Flos, and Artemide resulted in iconic pieces of modern design. Pier Giacomo Castiglioni taught design at Milan Polytechnic from 1946 until his death.
