Richard Sapper

b. 1932

Born in Munich, Richard Sapper was educated in his native Germany– studying a wide range of subjects ranging from philosophy, anatomy, graphics, engineering, and economics. He began his career in the design department at Mercedez-Benz, and has since continued designing industrial products from radios and televisions for Brionvega, cars for Fiat and Pirelli, tableware for Alessi, furniture for Castelli and Knoll, and the Tizio lamp for Artemide. Over the course of his career, Sapper has been awarded ten Compasso d’Oro for excellence in design.
