Ron Arad
b. 1951
Trained at both the Jerusalem Academy of Art and London’s Architectural Association, Arad is known for fusing elements of technology and architecture into his designs. During the 1980s, Arad gained international recognition for his chair designs, varying from post-industrial “readymades” to construction-intensive art pieces. Recently, Arad’s embrace of computer manufacturing has led to the creation of furniture that can receive and display SMS and Bluetooth messages from mobile phones and Palm Pilots. He has exhibited in major museums throughout the world, including the Centre Pompidou in Paris, The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Victoria & Albert Museum in London, and the Vitra Design Museum in Germany.
